The GAPSK Putonghua Proficiency Test (GAPSK) is the only Putonghua proficiency test for primary and secondary schools and kindergartens approved by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education. It is recognized and authoritative. Over 50 years have been held, with over 100,000 applicants. Trusted by schools (including government, subsidized, Direct Subsidy Scheme, and private), it serves as a benchmark for Putonghua language proficiency, and the results serve as a validation of students' Putonghua language proficiency for further studies and career advancement. Developed in 2004 by the Institute of Language Education at Peking University, with professional academic support, the GAPSK Putonghua Proficiency Test is specifically designed to assess the standard and proficient command and use of Putonghua by kindergarten and primary and secondary school students in Hong Kong. The test, aligned with the Hong Kong SAR Putonghua curriculum, is divided into four levels: kindergarten, primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary (the senior secondary level is under development). The questions and format of the primary school level exam are tailored to students' language proficiency, ensuring that their Putonghua proficiency is not underestimated due to language limitations. Therefore, the GAPSK Putonghua Proficiency Test is objective and scientific, and can be used as a cross-reference. The GAPSK Putonghua Proficiency Test is a comprehensive assessment of Putonghua proficiency, encompassing listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This principle aligns with the Hong Kong Examinations Authority's Putonghua Proficiency Test and the Education and Manpower Bureau's Secondary School Putonghua Examination. However, unlike Putonghua course exams, the GAPSK assesses Putonghua proficiency rather than assessing the content taught at each stage. Therefore, the test can objectively assess the true Putonghua proficiency of Hong Kong kindergarten, primary, and secondary school students.
